After a big year on the recruiting trail for the 2012 class, it didn’t take Shane Beamer long to get started for 2013.

The success Beamer the Younger enjoyed on Signing Day is well-documented, but we’ll go ahead and document them again.

– Beamer signed three 4-star recruits: Pennsylvania tailback Drew Harris , Richmond athlete Joel Caleb and Richmond linebacker Deon Clarke .

– Beamer signed offensive tackle Augie Conte over an offer from UVA, despite Conte’s family connection to the Hoos.

– Beamer signed defensive lineman Nigel Williams of Richmond, who was an early UVA lean.  He also got safety prospect Desmond Frye from Richmond, as well as sleeper tailback/linebacker Jerome Wright .

– Beamer also signed the teammate of Drew Harris , offensive guard Jack Willenbrock .

With eight guys signing on the dotted line on February 1, Shane Beamer had one heck of a debut recruiting class.  Some of the credit has to go to Jim Cavanaugh, Tech’s former Richmond recruiter, for establishing relationships with guys like Joel Caleb .  But most of the credit has to go to Shane, who recruited those guys hard for a year, and beat out some major schools for their services.

Not only did Beamer sign several highly-touted guys in 2012, he also beat in-state rival UVA head-to-head for Joel Caleb , Desmond Frye , Augie Conte , Deon Clarke and Nigel Williams .  There’s nothing quite like beating the Hoos, whether it be on the field, on the court, or on the recruiting trail.  Shane knows that, and he certainly got it done in his first year on the coaching staff.

Beamer didn’t rest on his 2012 laurels.  He immediately got to work on 2013, and picked up two commitments from Richmond standouts Holland Fisher
