Last month, Green Run (Virginia Beach, VA) outside linebacker/defensive end prospect Jamal Wallace stated that he may make his college decision in early July. A commitment may not be imminent, but the 6-3 1/2, 225-pound prospect still hopes to know his college destination by the end of the month.

“I’ll probably decide this month. Maybe in two or three weeks,” Wallace said.

Connecticut recently joined Duke, East Carolina, Louisville and Virginia as Wallace’s Division 1A offers. He listed three schools currently highest on his list.

“Duke, UVa and East Carolina,” he said.

Wallace has taken unofficial visits to Duke and Virginia and discussed what he likes about each of those programs.

“With Duke, I like the coaches,” Wallace said. “They are down to earth.

“With Virginia, the coaches are all right, too. I like the school. The school’s nice.”

The Virginia Beach standout may head to East Carolina this weekend, but another possibility is a trip to Virginia Tech’s camp on Saturday. The latter trip is unlikely at this point because of previous obligations, though Wallace did not rule it out.

“I just talked to a Virginia Tech coach. I was talking to Coach Newsome and he wanted me to come up for the day,” Wallace said. “He said he liked me and wanted to offer, but he said the other coaches need to see me in person first.”

A versatile and athletic prospect, Wallace primarily played defensive end last season as a junior. He is being recruited by some schools, including Virginia, as an outside linebacker, but could end up as a defensive end on the college level. He expects to see more action at tight end as well next season.
