Prior to September, Liberty (Bealeton, VA) offensive lineman/defensive lineman Kory Gough had earned scholarship offers from Army, East Carolina, Hofstra, James Madison and Liberty. Just over a week into September, the 6-6, 262-pound senior has added three new offers and could enjoy more success very soon.

“Arkansas just came in Thursday and offered me a full ride,” Gough reported. “Marshall and Old Dominion offered just before that.”

Of the Arkansas offer, Gough said, “Arkansas is in the SEC, which is the biggest conference in the country. It is by far the best offer I have on paper, but I want to check it out.”

In addition, North Carolina and Penn State are expressing heavy interest.

“UNC is highly interested,” Gough said. “I just talked to them [yesterday] actually. The line coach had not seen my highlight film. They said they might let me know something by Wednesday. Penn State is interested and I could know something from them [by today].”

Virginia Tech, Liberty head coach Tommy Buzzo said, has recently gotten into the mix as well.

“We’ve talked twice today and they have a real interest,” Buzzo said.

Coach Buzzo has sent out senior film of Gough, who is the team’s starting left tackle this season after seeing action at tackle and guard last season as a junior. He also is playing on the defensive line, but the new footage being sent out is all of him on the offensive line.

“I think I’ve played pretty good,” said Gough, who is being recruited by most schools to play on the offensive line. “I still have a long way to go, I think. There is still so much more I can do, but I think I do what I can do right now to my best. I can drive-block the snot out of some guys. The biggest thing is improving on what I’ve done. So far, I’m doing great and I need to keep like I’ve been going.”

As for Virginia, which had shown very heavy interest in late spring and early summer, the Cavaliers coaching staff is reviewing the recent film sent out. The staff had previously recruited Gough as a defensive end, but perhaps things could change if they like what they see of the senior season footage.

“Coach Buzzo sent Virginia an e-mail with a link to my senior video,” Gough said. “They said they would show the head coach and see what he thought.”

This summer, Gough made unofficial visits to five schools. And last weekend
