Wang Helps Stone Bridge to Big Win in Opener

Coming off its Group AAA, Division 5 state championship title last season, Stone Bridge (Ashburn, VA) kicked off the 2008 season in fine fashion with a 42-28 win over West Springfield last week. Putting the clamps on West Springfield star quarterback Bryn Renner, a UNC commit, the Bulldogs held a 42-7 advantage at halftime.

Virginia Tech commitment David Wang certainly was pleased with his team’s play and feels good about the season that lies ahead.

“It is always hard to lose seniors, especially seniors like Jeron Gouveia and Ryan Moody, but we had good returners,” Wang said. “We had a lot of returning starters and we have great chemistry on the field.”

A first-team VHSCA all-state selection on the offensive line last season as a junior, the 6-2, 302-pound prospect will primarily play defensive tackle this season in Stone Bridge’s new 4-man front defensive scheme. Head coach Mickey Thompson ran a 3-man front last season.
