2008 Hokie Football Season Preview: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

The Hokies have a tremendous amount of youth and inexperience at wide
receiver. Only one player in the current three deep at wideout has played in a
college game. It’s possible that as many as three true freshmen could play at
wideout this year. Things are a lot better at tight end, where the Hokies
actually have more players than they need this year.

Here is a look at our current depth chart. It doesn’t exactly match up with
the official depth chart. We try to base ours on who we think will play, and who
will redshirt. I think three true freshmen have a chance to see playing time for
Tech this year at wideout, and those three are listed on the depth chart below.

There are 13 players listed above, and eight of them are either true freshmen or
r-freshmen. Six of the eight receivers are true freshmen or r-freshmen. It’s
really tough to imagine how young this group is, until you actually look at the
table above.
