Tech Football Scores Another Commitment

Virginia Tech’s latest verbal is one of the top defensive prospects in the state of South Carolina, a state the Hokies have enjoyed success in these past few years. After signing the top linebacker Bruce Taylor in the 2008 class, the staff had already landed Palmetto state cornerback recruit Jerrodd Williams in this year’s class before today.

Marlboro County (Bennettsville, S.C.) outside linebacker/defensive end Tariq Edwards, a 6-4, 225-pound prospect, has decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and will play his college football at Virginia Tech.

“I just committed to Coach Beamer and Coach Wiles,” said Tariq, whose father, Bo Campbell, was a standout for Virginia Tech from 1988-1992. “They talked to me and congratulated me. Coach Beamer told me ‘thanks for becoming a Hokie.'”

Edwards chose Virginia Tech over numerous offers including Clemson, Duke, Illinois, N.C. State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia. He and his twin brother, Tyrell, have been to Blacksburg on many occasions, going to games and making visits with their father.
