In Jarell Eddie, Virginia Tech has scored a commitment from a 4-star prospect (as rated by Rivals.com and Scout.com) who first played on Cannon School’s (Concord, N.C.) varsity boys basketball program as an 8th-grader. As an 8th-grader, Eddie, who stood 6-5 at the time, was more of a post player according to Cannon School head coach Ron Johnson. Since then, the star rising junior has almost transformed his game.

“The past few years he has developed his perimeter shooting,” Johnson said of Eddie, who, rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, is considered one of the top overall recruits in the 2010 class. “He gets better and better and that’s what I think really had the college coaches excited about him. He keeps improving.

“He is pretty versatile. He can do things from the inside and outside. He can really shoot it. He has made the transition to being a perimeter player. People can see how he has developed. He can really, really shoot the ball from the outside now. One of the things he needs to continue to work on is his perimeter defense. On the ACC level, he’ll have to defend quick guys at the two. I’m sure he’ll continue to develop.”
