6-6, 290-pound defensive tackle/offensive lineman Nick Becton returned to Blacksburg on Saturday to catch Virginia Tech’s home game versus Miami. It was Becton’s second visit to Blacksburg and, just as he did with the first, he came away impressed with what he experienced.
The New Hanover (Wilmington, N.C.) star made the trip with his parents. They traveled up on Saturday morning and returned on Sunday.
“When I got there, they had a buffet kind of thing laid out,” Becton recalled from Saturday’s experience. “I talked with Coach Wiles after that and a couple of other coaches. Coach Wiles was talking about me playing on the defensive line. The offensive guys said they want me to play on the offensive line.
“After the game, they let recruits come to the locker room to hear what the coaches had to say. I talked with Coach Wiles a little bit more after that. Then I went back with my parents to our hotel.”
In terms of the overall experience, Becton said “I had a good time. I like the campus, the coaches, the team and the program.”
In particular, Becton was impressed by the game.
“They have really good fans and everything,” Becton said of Virginia Tech. “The atmosphere was really good. When I went to the concession stands, fans were stopping me and telling me to go to Virginia Tech. The team played real good. They won by a good margin.”
Becton’s trip to Virginia Tech came a week after an unofficial visit to South Carolina. He commented on his experience in Columbia.
“It was a good visit,” Becton said. “I got to talk to the coaches a lot. They like me more on defense.”
This coming weekend, Becton says he will be in Raleigh to see N.C. State’s final home game versus Maryland. He plans to be in Raleigh again on the weekend of December 1st for an official visit. Becton has set three other official visits as well, including Virginia Tech on the weekend of December 8th, Alabama on the weekend of January 12th and South Carolina on the weekend of January 19th.
Becton, who is not sure if he will take a fifth official visit, did not name a favorite.
Position at Virginia Tech…
Should he choose the Hokies, Becton has an idea of which side of the ball he would start out playing.
