Oviedo (FL) star defensive lineman Dwight Tucker will likely make his official visits after his senior season is completed. The 6-2, 275-pound prospect recently scheduled his first official trip, which will come in the month of December. Which program will he visit?
“I have a visit to Virginia Tech set up for December 7th,” Tucker said. “That will be my first one. I plan to take as many official visits as I can.”
The University of Tennessee is one of the most recent programs to extend an official scholarship offer and Tucker is interested. In fact, he says he would like to make one of his official visits to Tennessee. The key so far for Tennessee and Virginia Tech has been the interest the coaches have shown.
“I talk to them every week,” Tucker said of UT and VT coaches.
“With Virginia Tech, I talk to Coach [Torrian] Gray. He talks about the school and the education and the position I would play. They like me as a defensive end or defensive tackle.”
Tucker may make an unofficial visit to the University of Florida this weekend, when the Gators take on Tennessee. He has not received much interest from the in-state “Big 3” of Florida, Florida State and Miami, although he has spoken with a Florida coach over the phone.
Other programs that have offered or are showing significant interest include Air Force, Army, Central Florida, Duke and Mississippi State.
“I don’t really have any favorites right now,” Tucker said.
A linebacker last season as a junior, Tucker gained about 30 pounds over the offseason and is now playing defensive tackle for Oviedo. The position switch has gone well.
“It has been pretty natural,” Tucker said. “I think I’ve played great. I’ve made some big tackles.”
Oviedo is 2-0 on the year including routes of 47-14 and 48-7, respectively. Tucker believes his squad has the ability to capture a state championship this season.
