6-1, 180-pound Amherst (VA) athlete Peter Rose has had a difficult time these past few weeks, trying to make a decision between his two finalists. Virginia and Virginia Tech have both impressed Peter and his family, but the talented standout could finally be closing in on a decision.

“I think I’m coming down to a closing point right now,” Rose said. “I’m not going to say, but I’ve got an idea of where I want to go. I just have to talk to my parents about a few more things.

“I’d say I’m about 75-percent [sure of where he wants to go].”

Rose made two key visits last month, attending Virginia Tech’s senior camp on June 9th and Virginia’s Elite Junior Day on June 16th. Following the trip to Blacksburg, he was a Hokie lean. But the visit to Virginia changed things and the race has been tight ever since.

“Both are big programs,” Rose said. “For UVa, really it was the way the coaches talked to me. They made you feel like UVa was the place to be. I think my family was liking the location because it’s right up the road from my family. I couple of people from my family are leaning that way because they liked the way the coaching staff talked to me when I went down there. I liked it a lot, too.

“When I went to Virginia Tech, it was more like a camp. It was more of me showing them what I could do. Virginia Tech is a winning program. I know I would win some games and compete into bowls. And when I talked to them, Coach Beamer and Coach Stinespring seem like guys who you would want to be acquainted with for the next for years.”

Rose has asked for and received input from family and friends in trying to come to a decision.

“I’ve pretty much just been talking to my family and seeing what their inputs were,” said Rose, who believes his father may be leaning to UVa with his mother liking both programs equally. “I’ve been listening to what everybody says. I’ve put everything together to try and form the pieces of the puzzle. How I’m coming down to my decision is based on my thinking, my family’s input and Coach Abell. Coach Abell has been there for me, too. He really doesn’t tell me anything…he just answers questions I have. He told me to go with the best decision for me”

At the latest, Rose wants to have made a commitment by August 1st. Stay tuned, as we will check
