Rumors of a potential Ohio State offer to Warren Central (Indianapolis, IN) star running back Darren Evans have been rampant this week. TechSideline.com caught up with Warren Central Head Coach Steve Tutsie yesterday for more on this situation and to learn if Evans, a Virginia Tech commitment, would seriously consider an offer from the Buckeyes.

“We’ve heard rumblings about Ohio State maybe coming in with an offer, but no one has talked to me,” Tutsie said. “I talked to Darren around 3:00 [yesterday afternoon] and he said he hadn’t heard anything either.”

If Ohio State comes in with an offer, could Evans be interested?

“He knows any other schools that come in late have known about him forever,” Tutsie said. “He has a home at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech said they weren’t going to recruit any more than two tailbacks. They haven’t. They’ve been loyal and also I’ve known Coach Wiles and Coach Foster a long time.”

Tutsie also added that “we’re ready for February 7th.”

Evans, who plans to make an official visit to Virginia Tech in January, recently concluded his outstanding career. Warren Central captured the Class 5A State Championship for the fourth consecutive season. The 6-1, 212-pound running back rushed for 2,806 yards and 61 touchdowns on the season.

Feeling better…

When I spoke with Darren late last week (article is linked below), he stated that he was in the hospital. He’s out now and everything is fine.

“He just had a respiratory-type thing,” Tutsie said. “He’s good now. And you know what? Even with that, they couldn’t stop him out there.”
