Denbigh (Newport News, VA) offensive lineman Jaymes Brooks verbally committed to Virginia Tech this past summer. However, at the time, he also stated his intention to make all five official visits. He made an official visit to Virginia Tech yesterday. Does he still plan to make official visits to other schools?
“I’m just done right now,” said the 6-3, 295-pound Brooks. “I’ve cancelled the other trips.”
Of his decision to commit to Virginia Tech, Brooks says “I feel 100-percent positive about it. I’m going to Tech. I’m going to be a Hokie.”
Brooks discussed his official visit experience.
“It was real nice,” said Brooks, who did not get a chance to visit Virginia Tech during the season. “It was a real good experience to see how everybody is. I was able to hang out with the players a little bit. I ate with all the coaches. It was good.”
Fellow offensive lineman Sergio Render was Brooks’ host.
“He just basically told me how it was coming in and how it was being a true freshman starter,” Brooks recalled. “He told me it wasn’t a big adjustment. He just had to learn more technique.”
Brooks is comfortable with Virginia Tech, especially because the team is comprised of many players from the Tidewater area.
“It is real good knowing that they have a lot of guys around my area,” Brooks said. “It shows a lot about 757 area football. It’s also good knowing I can catch a ride home most anytime (laughs).”
With his recruiting process complete, Brooks now intends to focus on his academics (says everything is going well in his senior year) and gaining strength before getting to Virginia Tech. He does not intend to play any other sports at this time.
As for his individual performance his senior year, Brooks says “I believe I stepped it up big time on the defensive end.”
Brooks played along the offensive line and defensive tackle for the Patriots this past season.
