6-4, 230-pound Varina (VA) star Jamar Jackson made his first official visit this past weekend, when he visited Boston College. The defensive end/outside linebacker standout came away very impressed, but remains intent on making all five official visits before he makes a commitment anywhere. Jackson’s schedule is filled up over the next three weekends, so, by the end of it, he should be a lot closer to a decision.
“It was great,” Jackson said of the official visit to BC. His host was junior linebacker Jolonn Dunbar. “I had a great time. The highlight of course was the game. It was real nice. Boston College didn’t quit. They had a lot of things go wrong, but they didn’t quit. That was one thing I liked.”
Asked whether or not he felt he fit in with the Boston College program, Jackson answered “I fit in well. I could see myself there, but I still want to take the other visits. It was great being at BC, but I still want to take the other visits and compare those.”
Boston College has been reported as the favorite following the experience. Is this true?
“I mean, Boston College is my first official visit. It was great. I really did like it, but I still want to take those other visits,” Jackson said.
Jackson’s schedule over the next three weekends looks like this: An official visit to Louisville this weekend, an official visit to N.C. State for the weekend of the 23rd and an official visit to Virginia Tech on the weekend of the 30th.
“I haven’t scheduled Clemson yet,” said Jackson, who lists the above five schools as his finalists.
Jackson, who says “all the schools are even in how hard they are recruiting me,” has spoken this month with Tech primary recruiter Jim Cavanaugh.
“He said they are really interested,” Jackson said. He plans on making the official to Tech along with his teammate, Bud Tribbey. “He told me where I fit in and the things I needed to know about them. I really like Virginia Tech and I’m looking forward to the official visit. I’ve been there once for a game and I really liked it. I’ve been there for some camps and I liked it.”
We will be sure to follow up with Jamar in the coming weeks for more updates on his official visits.
Varina rebounded from a season-opening loss to Gar-Field with a 34-0 win over Hopewell last week.
