Andrew Devlin , one of the top tight end recruits in the East, has narrowed his list to “about 10 or 12 schools.” The Mount Lebanon (Pittsburgh, PA) star hopes to make a commitment before the beginning of his senior season and plans to make a number of unofficial visits this fall – starting this weekend at the University of Virginia.

“I’ve cut it to about 10 or 12 schools,” Devlin said. “There is Stanford out West, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Purdue, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The schools that haven’t offered that I’m looking at strong are Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame. Those are most of the schools. I’m even among these programs.”

In May, Devlin, who has family in California, made an unofficial visit to Stanford. He has also taken unofficial visits this year to Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia and West Virginia. He made an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech his sophomore year as well.

Devlin will head to Virginia (and possibly Virginia Tech as well) this weekend and plans on taking more visits this summer in hopes of making a verbal commitment prior to his senior season.

“I want to make a decision before the season,” Devlin said. “If I don’t have the right feel about the school, then I’ll wait. I would like to do it before the season begins because we’re going to have a good team and I don’t want any distractions. We got to the semifinals last year and are trying to get to the finals next season.”

As a junior last season, Devlin helped Mount Lebanon to an appearance in the semifinals of the state playoffs. He made 12 receptions from the tight end position and served as a valuable blocker in a solid rushing attack. He is being recruited by all of these programs as a tight end or defensive end recruit, but a potential future move to offensive line is not out of the question.

“They’re all recruiting me for tight end or defensive end now, but they all say if I grow I could project to play tackle,” said Devlin, who recently measured in at 6-6 and weighed 252 pounds. “Since everybody is really recruiting me as a tight end, I’m trying to slim down some and to get my 40 time down. I’ve gotten it down a little bit. 4.9
