2006 Spring Football Preview: The Offensive Line

In recent seasons, Virginia Tech’s offensive line has been the most
criticized unit on the team. Their struggles in pass blocking, as well as run
blocking against athletic teams like Miami, Florida State and NC State, have
drawn critics to Bryan Stinespring, certain players, and Tech’s offensive
system. This year, the offensive line has a new coach and a lot of new faces,
and everyone is anxious to see how they perform.

At this point, most of the starters are apparent, but there will be a lot of
players competing for a spot on the 2-deep, some of which you may have never
heard of before.

Among the starters, the Hokies aren’t as inexperienced as many would think.
The starting five will probably develop into a solid group and play their best
football at the end of the season, like many recent offensive lines. However,
any injury would spell bad news. The backups are very young and inexperienced.

The Hokies must also get used to a new coach. Curt Newsome will serve as Tech’s
new offensive line coach, while Bryan Stinespring will move on to coach the
tight ends.
