In what is a change of plans, 5-star running back LeSean McCoy will announce his commitment on Signing Day. Previously, he was thinking about holding off on any kind of commitment or announcement but has changed his mind according to Milford Academy (New Berlin, N.Y.) head coach Bill Chaplick.
“It’s a last minute thing,” Chaplick said. “Originally, he wasn’t going to announce but he and his family talked about it and decided to do it.”
The announcement is currently scheduled to take place on Wednesday at noon, but the time may change depending on the television media. Coach Chaplick expects to know more tomorrow.
Four schools are listed as being under consideration here.
“Penn State, Miami, USC and Virginia Tech,” Chaplick replied when asked which schools were in the running.
McCoy may not sign a letter of intent on Wednesday, as Chaplick said “I think he’s just announcing.”
One of the country’s top tailback prospects, the 5-11, 205-pound McCoy possesses blazing speed – he has been electronically timed at 4.25 in the 40-yard dash. As a junior at Bishop McDevitt in Harrisburg, PA, he rushed for 2,800 yards and 40 touchdowns. He missed all but four games his senior season due to a fractured ankle, but rushed for close to 1,000 yards in almost four full games.
McCoy enrolled at Milford Academy earlier this month and plans to be there the rest of this year and for a full year in 2006-2007. He is just one of many talented tailbacks to play under Chaplick, who coached former Iowa star back Fred Russell.
