Virginia Tech will be the final official visit destination for South Aiken (S.C.) linebacker/defensive end prospect Dekoda Watson. And, by early next week, the four finalists should know the future destination of the South Carolina prep star.
“All of Dekoda’s official visits have been great,” South Aiken head coach Dan Pippin said. “They’ve all been good. He’s enjoyed them all.”
Watson has taken officials to South Carolina, Florida State and Tennessee. What is he looking for out of his fourth and final trip?
“I think he just wants to see if it’s a place he can be,” Pippin said. “And he wants to see how he gets along with everyone.
Asked what the most important factor will be in this decision, Pippin answered “relationships between he and the coaches. All of the schools he’s visited have great facilities and they all offer a good education. Those things are about the same, I think. Relationships are going to be important for him.”
At this point, Pippin says there are no favorites and all four schools remain in contention. A decision could come very soon, however, and maybe as soon as Monday.
Earlier this week, Coach Frank Beamer made a visit to South Aiken to visit with Watson. The visit went well, as Pippin said “Coach Beamer’s a great man.”
This one’s a tough call, but I certainly would not count out Virginia Tech. According to Pippin, Watson and his family took notice when Bud Foster attended one of his games last season. Watson appears to respect Coach Beamer quite a bit, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Tech can pull this one out. At this point, all four schools look to be in serious contention.
