Landstown’s (Virginia Beach, VA) 6-0, 195-pound 4-star wide receiver Damon McDaniel had a great official visit to Virginia Tech. The highlight of the visit was the walk, which made a significant impression on a prospect rated as one of the top wide receivers in the country.

This official visit was McDaniel’s second, as he made an official to Florida in September. Asked to compare the Virginia Tech game experience with the one at Florida, McDaniel replied “I would say the game atmosphere for Florida was better, but what happened before the game at Virginia Tech really got me. I wasn’t expecting that. I didn’t think that many people knew me. They were saying they want to have me at Virginia Tech and to come to Virginia Tech. There were signs up everywhere.”

When asked if the pre-game experience had a big effect on him, McDaniel replied “yeah, it did. I feel like they wanted me to be there and that’s something I’m looking at.”

McDaniel, who spent a lot of time over the weekend with fellow recruits LeSean McCoy and Vidal Hazelton, came away with a favorable impression of Virginia Tech’s players and coaches.

“Everybody is real cool,” McDaniel said. “Nobody is snobby. They are just regular people. The coaches and I sat and talked a lot, too.”

McDaniel also discussed his thoughts on Virginia Tech’s offense.

“The offense had to throw a lot,” McDaniel said. “They usually don’t throw that much, but they’re starting to. Three wide receivers have 20 catches this year.”

Is there a big difference in McDaniel’s mind with respect to Florida and Virginia Tech’s offenses?

“The Florida and Virginia Tech offenses are pretty equal because I feel that, anywhere I go, I will compete for a spot,” McDaniel said.

An official visit to LSU is planned for the weekend of November 24th and McDaniel plans to take an official visit to Miami as well. No date has been set for the Miami trip, which could be the final official. “That might be it,” McDaniel said of his official visits after heading to LSU and Miami.

A decision may not come anytime soon for McDaniel, who says he probably will announce in January. He will likely announce his decision on ESPN. At this time, he names no favorites but Virginia Tech certainly appears
