6-4, 290-pound Sergio Render made only one official visit – to Virginia Tech in October – before committing to the Hokies last month. Reportedly, he was considering taking an official visit to Arkansas this month, but he now says he will not.
“I’m not going,” Render said. “Arkansas wanted me to come for a visit, but I’m not going. I’m solid with Virginia Tech and I’m not taking anymore visits.”
A big draw for Render with respect to Virginia Tech is that the Hokies are recruiting him to play defensive tackle. He’s working hard in the training room, trying to prepare for his freshman year in college.
“It’s going pretty good,” Render said. “I got a little bit faster. I’m hoping to slim down and become a lot more cut. I want to get the fat off. I also want to get stronger. If I can do these things, I think there’s a good chance I could play as a true freshman. They rotate a lot of guys all during the game.”
Render recently starred in the Georgia state all-star game. The 3-star prospect shows a lot of ability at defensive tackle, combining good athleticism with size and strength.
