In our most recent update with him, Ashley (Wilmington, NC) 6-4, 178-pound wide receiver Geron James had stated that he would commit to N.C. State if he couldn’t get his January 28th official visit date with Virginia Tech rescheduled for an earlier time. Is that still the case?
“I’m having 2nd thoughts about going ahead and committing to N.C. State,” James said. “I think I might go up to Virginia Tech on January 28th. They are pretty set on that date because that’s when their players come back. I’d say I’m about 70% sure I’ll take the visit to Virginia Tech.”
Has N.C. State fallen in recent weeks?
“No, they haven’t,” James said. “They lost some coaches but it hasn’t really hurt them. I just want to compare another school.”
What will it take for Virginia Tech to overcome N.C. State?
“I’m really just looking for living style,” James said. “Staying up at N.C. State, I really liked their dorms. I want to feel comfortable wherever I go. I want to live a comfortable life wherever I go. So I want to see the dorms, see how the players are and how they entertain themselves.”
It appears likely that Virginia Tech will have their chance to impress James on an official visit, however N.C. State remains the leader for his services.
“I really got that comfortable feeling at N.C. State,” James said. “That’s what put them on top.”
James says both offenses are “pretty much equal” in his opinion. Tech has some work to do to catch the Wolfpack, but it looks like they will at least have a chance.
Very fast for his size, James was timed at 4.41 in the 40-yard dash during N.C. State’s summer camp. He was also offered by UNC and received interest from Georgia Tech and several others before narrowing his list to N.C. State and Virginia Tech. James visited Blacksburg unofficially in November for the UVa football game.
