LaGrange High School (GA) defensive end recruit Braxton Kelley was scheduled to make his official visit to Virginia Tech last weekend. Did the talented 6-1, 220-pound prospect make the trip?

“No, sir,” Kelley said. “The trip was cancelled. I’ve rescheduled it for the weekend of January 16th.”

Being recruited by Tech assistant coach Lorenzo Ward, Kelley says Virginia Tech “has shown a lot of interest in me about playing defensive end and linebacker. They always have a good program. I like Coach Ward. He’s an up-tempo guy.”

The 2 other schools in serious contention for Kelley include Kentucky and South Carolina. He has not spoken with South Carolina since Steve Spurrier took over as Head Coach, but did receive a call from them yesterday (missed the call).

Kelley made an official visit to Kentucky earlier this year. He stated what stood out about that visit.

“When I went up there, the fans were really nice,” Kelley said. “I liked the people, the coaching staff and the players. I think I want to play in an environment like that.”

In 2004, Kelley had 9 sacks and 77 tackles in helping LaGrange to an undefeated season and the AAA State Championship title. LaGrange is back-to-back AAA champions and has won the state title 3 out of the past 4 years.
