Virginia Tech landed an unexpected official visit this past weekend from top Plantation High School (FL) defensive line prospect Jeffrey Owens. Owens seemed to enjoy the players the most on his trip to Blacksburg.
“It was pretty good,” Owens said. “I liked it. I liked that the players were very close. They all get along real well. I was hosted by the guy they call CP (Carlton Powell). He’s number 99. He seemed like a real cool guy. I liked them all.”
Was there anything that surprised him about the trip?
“I’d say the cold weather,” Owens said. “I didn’t expect that.”
Rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com, the 6-3, 265-pound Owens has narrowed his list of schools to Georgia, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Miami and Florida State (in order of official visits). He made an official visit to the University of Georgia in late November before heading to Virginia Tech.
“The visit to Georgia went pretty good,” Owens said. “They’ve got a great team and the players were really cool.”
Is there a favorite right now among his top 5?
“I’d say Georgia is probably the favorite now,” Owens said.
This weekend, Owens will visit Oklahoma and will go to Miami on January 21st and Florida State on January 28th. In addition to taking these visits, the star lineman will play in the Florida/California all-star game and the Broward/Dade all-star game.
