Eastern (Voorhees, N.J.) athlete recruit Jahre Cheeseman may be close to selecting which school he will sign with in February of 2005. He is currently contemplating two options – commit to Virginia Tech or explore a new option further.
Cheeseman recently cancelled a previously scheduled official visit to the University of Minnesota set for the weekend of December 17-19.
“No, I’m not taking the visit to Minnesota,” Cheeseman said. “I’m actually thinking about committing to Virginia Tech. I’m pretty close. I’m weighing out a few things first.”
The new option in this race is the University of Florida.
“I’ve been contacted by Florida’s running backs coach recently,” Cheeseman said. “I’m thinking about waiting and maybe looking at them further. I mean, the coach has already told me that they are going to offer but I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. Florida is just an interesting situation that I might want to check out. My teammate (Phil Trautwein) goes there, and he wants me to come down there to visit.”
When will he make the decision?
“I’m still trying to have a decision one way or the other before Christmas,” Cheeseman said.
The 5-9, 180-pound Cheeseman, who is being recruited by Virginia Tech as an athlete and by the University of Florida as a running back, stated why he may choose Virginia Tech if he does commit. He has also taken an official visit to Penn State.
“Just the overall feel I got when I went there,” Cheeseman said. “I felt comfortable with everything. I liked the coaches and the campus.”
Has Virginia Tech stated that Cheeseman could wait to decide?
“They’ve pretty much said that I can decide no matter when, but I just thought I might decide earlier,” Cheeseman said.
