Lakewood (Sumter, SC) wide receiver/defensive back recruit J.C. Neal made an official visit to the University of Maryland this past weekend. How did it go?

“It was all right,” Neal said. “There were a lot of meetings and presentations of academics and other stuff. I met with the wide receivers coach and the Head Coach.”

How did it compare to the Virginia Tech official visit the prior weekend?

“Virginia Tech had a game and there wasn’t a game at Maryland, so the atmospheres were different,” Neal said. “I felt comfortable at both campuses though. There were a lot more things to do [at the University of Maryland] than in Blacksburg, but I liked Blacksburg too.”

Neal has scheduled 3 other official visits. One is to N.C. State, which has been at or near the top of Neal’s list for quite some time, while the other 2 are somewhat of a surprise.

“I’m going to South Carolina on January 7th, N.C. State on January 14th and Clemson on January 21st,” Neal said. He originally did not mention visiting either in-state school until now. “I’m going to Clemson because I liked it and I said I would give them another look. I’ve spoken to [South Carolina Head Coach] Steve Spurrier a lot and he said they are going to pass the ball around a lot in their spread offense. I wouldn’t mind catching some passes.”

Previously, Neal had listed N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Maryland as his leaders. Nothing has changed, however Neal did list an outright leader last night.

“It’s N.C. State followed by Virginia Tech and Maryland,” Neal said. “Virginia Tech and Maryland are even behind N.C. State.”

Despite the 2 in-state schools landing official visits, Neal remains adamant in wanting to attend college out of state.

“Yeah,” Neal said. “Unless something changes my mind, I want to go out of state.”
