New Bern (NC) tailback recruit Montario Hardesty says he “liked” his official visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend. But what stood out to the 6-0, 190-pound recruit the most?
“Before the game I got to meet Kevin Jones and Bruce Smith and got some autographs,” Hardesty said. “And I also got to see the walk…that was crazy. The atmosphere in the stadium was jumping. It was crazy.”
Hardesty, who was hosted by senior QB Bryan Randall, left with a good sense of how the players feel about Virginia Tech.
“He told me a lot about the school,” Hardesty said. “He talked about the University and that he liked it a lot. He had nothing bad to say. I talked to some other players who said the same thing. All of the players were real cool.”
Hardesty met with the coaches at length as well. Tech is recruiting him as a tailback.
“I talked to Coach Wiles, but I’ve been talking to him for a long time,” Hardesty said. “We went to Coach Beamer’s house. He has a nice house (laughs). I talked to Coach Hite. They said they have 3 juniors and 1 red-shirt freshman at tailback. There’s an opportunity for me to play, but I’ve got to make that happen. Playing early depends on you.”
Hardesty will make an official visit to UNC this weekend. He visited the University of Nebraska before this past weekend. How did the Tech experience compare with the one at Nebraska?
“Honestly, I liked this one more,” Hardesty said. “What I liked more was being around the players. They are more of a family I think than at Nebraska.”
Are there any leaders right now?
“I can’t say because I haven’t visited all of the schools I want to visit,” Hardesty said. “But this weekend was a good visit.”
Schools under consideration for the final 2 visit spots include Notre Dame, N.C. State, Tennessee and Clemson. Right now, Hardesty is leaning towards taking all 5 official visits before announcing a decision.
