Decision time will come relatively soon for Eastern (Voorhees, N.J.) athlete Jahre Cheeseman. Cheeseman, who has made one official visit to Virginia Tech on September 29th, will make 3 official visits during the month of December and plans on having a decision shortly thereafter.
“I take official visits to Penn State on December 3rd, Maryland on December 10th and Minnesota on December 17th,” Cheeseman said. “After I make those visits, I’ll narrow it down and pick my favorites. Then I’ll decide…maybe sometime around Christmas. I’m not totally sure.”
For now, Cheeseman does not name any favorites among his final 4 schools, saying “I decided to leave it open for now. Virginia Tech is my only official so far, so it’s not fair to the other schools to name favorites right now.”
Virginia Tech is still seriously in the race for Cheeseman, who talks to Coach Kevin Rogers on a weekly basis.
“For Virginia Tech, I liked my visit there, I like the coaching staff and the players unity,” Cheeseman said. “The coaches give me a comfortable feeling. They are really nice and I like the way they converse with the players.
“I like the relationship I have between [other coaches] and me, but I’m going to wait to when I get to those places to find out the relationship between them and the players.”
After not being listed many times by Cheeseman in previous updates, Minnesota came in and landed the fourth official visit. How long has Minnesota been in the race?
“They’d been recruiting me since way back,” Cheeseman said. “They kept with me, so I thought I’d give them a chance.”
All 4 schools are recruiting Jahre as an athlete. He plays tailback and cornerback for Eastern, which went 6-2 on the regular season. The #7 seed heading into the South 1, Group 4 playoffs, Eastern plays Cherokee tonight.
On the year, Cheeseman feels he has played “solidly all-around.” He didn’t know any offensive statistics, but did say he has a couple of interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.
