6-5, 335-pound defensive tackle Marques Slocum was one of UVa’s remaining targets for the 2005 class. It seems that both parties may now be going separate ways.
“I haven’t talked to them in a while,” Slocum said of UVa. “The last time I talked to them was in the last part of September. Some of that may be my fault because I don’t answer the phone all the time. I still like them, but for right now my top 5 is where I want to be. I don’t have any problem with Virginia. I can’t say anything wrong about them. I love Coach London and Coach Price, but I just feel as though I need to go somewhere else.”
The West Catholic (Philadelphia, PA) star has 2 Big 10 teams, 2 ACC teams and 1 SEC team in his top 5.
“Michigan, Michigan State, Miami, Maryland and LSU are my top 5,” Slocum said. “I haven’t talked to LSU in a while, but I’ll try to call them soon. This is pretty much my final 5. I like these schools because of the vibe I got from each. I felt it at Michigan, Michigan State, Miami and Maryland too.”
With Slocum seemingly out of the picture at this time, UVa’s remaining defensive targets include LB Brian Cushing, LB Darryl Gresham (now a “soft commit” who is also considering Florida, Tennessee and Virginia Tech), OLB/TE Kyle Newell, CB/RB Victor “Macho” Harris and S Kitt Pommells.
Pommells, who has heard from UVa since September 1st but has not received consistent phone calls from Cavalier coaches, does not appear to be as high on UVa’s board as the other 4 however.
