Conway (SC) defensive line prospect Hivera Green traveled all night long on Friday night into Saturday morning, arriving in Blacksburg at 4:00 am this past Saturday. The tough trip was well worth it for Green, who took in Tech’s 19-13 victory over West Virginia.
“The trip went great,” Green said. “I loved the atmosphere on gameday. The fans are real supportive of their team. I didn’t think it would be that great of an environment. I was having a great time, and they all treated me like they really wanted me. The coaches, the fans and the players all treated me like they wanted me there.”
While he enjoyed everything about his visit, Green noted one particular meeting with Coach Frank Beamer that would be the main highlight of his visit.
“Talking to the players was great, but what stood out the most was when I walked through the tunnel and they took me out to the middle of the field to meet Coach Beamer,” Green said. “That was like the greatest thing in the world. I was expecting to speak with him, but not then. I felt like I wanted to get padded up and start playing. He told me he hoped I was enjoying the trip and he would like for me to ‘give us a chance.’”
Green, who had Tech and Michigan in his top 2 before the visit, now says “right now, Virginia Tech is leading the pack.”
He says he will take an official visit to Virginia Tech and a few other schools as well before making a decision.
“My official visits will probably be set for after the season because we don’t have a lot of Saturdays off,” Green said. “[In addition to Virginia Tech] I’ll probably take visits to Tennessee, Clemson and Michigan. They’ll have to be close or better than the way Virginia Tech treated me up there. I felt great on my visit.”
