This month, Paterson Catholic (NJ) star safety prospect Kitt Pommells says he has heard from coaches from “Indiana, Syracuse, Virginia, UConn, Rutgers, Pittsburgh and Iowa.” After speaking with these coaches, has he been able to set any official visits?

“I haven’t scheduled any official visits,” Pommells said. “I want to take official visits to Syracuse, Iowa, UConn, Virginia and I don’t know who the 5th one would be.”

Virginia, Connecticut and Syracuse are the teams that have been at or near the top of Pommells’ list for quite a while. He listed another top 3 last night, with one of those original top schools was replaced by the Iowa Hawkeyes.

“I have 3 at the top,” Pommells said. “I like Virginia, UConn and Iowa.”

Virginia Defensive Coordinator Al Golden is the Virginia coach who called Kitt earlier this month. Pommells says he has only talked to UVa once since the Evaluation period started.

“I talked to Coach Golden the first week [in September],” Pommells said. “He said I was the most electrifying player in sports entertainment (laughs). He was saying he hopes to see me in UVa colors soon. He said they have only offered this much players, so I think they may want me to make my decision quickly. I mean I’m leaning towards them, but I want to weigh everything out.”

A bulked up Pommells has continued his great play on defense and offense this season. The 6-1, 205-pound prospect loves playing safety, which is where he will likely end up on the next level. He has recorded 24 tackles and has 3 interceptions through 3 games.

“Playing safety is fun,” Pommells said. “You get to hit people but you also get to cover people and show that you can not only tackle but you can cover. I think I’m good at stopping the run and good at covering. I pride myself on both.”

He has looked impressive on offense as well. Specifically, he has done a great job filling in for the normal starting tailback. He typically plays receiver on offense, but has played tailback and fullback before.

“On the 1st handoff this year I went 86 yards for a touchdown,” Pommells said. “I have 30 carries for 430 yards and 3 receptions for 46 yards. I have 8 touchdowns.”

Paterson Catholic is 3-0 on the year.
