UVa commitment Brandon Woods has been hearing from a lot of schools this month – not just the Cavaliers. Does he plan on taking any official visits other than UVa?

“I’m kind of considering taking visits to other schools,” Woods replied, when asked if he was definitely going to take other visits or if he was considering it. “Nebraska, Clemson and South Carolina are some of the schools I’d look at if I did take more visits. Georgia is there a little bit too.”

As for the Cavaliers, Woods commented about where they stand with him right now.

“Virginia’s at the top of my list,” Woods said. “I’m still committed…all the way. It’s a very good school. I love everything about them. They’re playing real well. The offense is looking very good and I like how they are throwing the ball. It’s a good place to be.”

As for deciding if he will take other visits, Woods will decide after his senior season. He hasn’t discussed with the UVa coaches the possibility of taking more visits.

“I haven’t talked to them about that,” Woods said. “I want to focus on my football season and enjoy that first. All of the college stuff will come later.”

A wide receiver and safety for Southern High School (Durham, NC), the 6-2, 205-pound Woods is a key component on both sides of the ball. Virginia is recruiting Woods as a wide receiver. He is a tough, physical receiver with excellent jumping ability. He has also improved his speed, saying he has been timed recently at 4.54 in the 40-yard dash.

“I go get the ball,” Woods said. “Any ball. I feel I’ve gotten stronger and faster this year. I can catch. Last year I’d get a lot of fades, but this year I’m getting a chance to catch everything.”

Last week, Southern (3-0) captured its third victory in a row in defeating Riverside. Woods hauled in 2 catches for 83 yards and a touchdown in the win.

“We won 34-0 last week,” Woods said. “It was a big game. They had a lot of good players on defense, but we stepped up. I caught a couple of passes. Now we’re 3-0.”

UVa Calling…

Between Maurice Covington and Brandon Woods , Coach Ron Prince has been busy calling each of these two prospects this month. Woods has spoken with Wide Receivers Coach John Garrett recently as well.
