This month, Scotland (Laurinburg, NC) quarterback Cameron Sexton has concentrated heavily on his upcoming season and has put recruiting on the back burner. But, though recruiting has not been at the forefront of his mind, he has been able to narrow his list of schools.
“I have a top 5 or 6,” Sexton said. “[North] Carolina, [N.C.] State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Florida State and Miami.”
Miami (Fl) is a new team in the recruiting race. Sexton spoke to Hurricane Offensive Coordinator Dan Werner earlier this month, and found out an offer could be on the way.
“Coach Werner and I spoke earlier in May,” Sexton said. “Last week, we talked again. He told me that some of the prospects they were recruiting had committed to other places, and that he could see them offering more quarterbacks and I might be in there. I don’t have an offer yet, but that could change.”
One team that is the most recent to offer Sexton is N.C. State. Cameron likes N.C. State, but says that their recent offer doesn’t put them atop his list.

This Fall, Sexton will probably make at least a few official visits. He has not decided where he will go for sure, but is considering the top schools.
“I definitely want to see Clemson and Virginia Tech for games,” Sexton said. “You can see a school during the summer, but it’s nothing like what it would be when students are there. I’m thinking about official visits to those schools, but they might be unofficials. Florida State might be an official. And potentially Miami. I don’t know exactly who I’ll officially visit. As for UNC and N.C. State, I’m not sure what I’d do there since I’ve been to both of those schools so many times. I’ve been to a couple of games before at UNC.”
Sexton may set up some official visits in the next month or so. He acknowledges that, since he will graduate early, he may have to set up some official visits soon. He wants to enroll early in college.
Sexton will be throwing the ball a whole lot more this season. A dual-threat quarterback, Sexton expects his team to run a heavy pass-oriented offense.
“We definitely throw...
