UVa has added yet another talented prospect on offense in the 2005 recruiting class, as Hermitage (Richmond, VA) quarterback Jameel Sewell has verbally committed to the ‘Hoos. The 6-3, 200 pound Sewell chose UVa over Maryland and other offers from Syracuse, Cincinnati, and North Carolina.

“Jameel committed to UVa,” Hermitage Head Coach Patrick Kane said. “He decided on Friday, and I talked to Mike Groh today about it and he said we could release it. Jameel had narrowed it down to two schools – Virginia and Maryland. I think he chose Virginia because he felt comfortable with the staff and he’s excited about the offense they run.”

As a junior, Sewell completed 65 of 135 passes (48%) for 1,032 yards and 16 touchdowns. He threw only five interceptions. A good athlete, Sewell rushed 29 times for 150 yards and scored two touchdowns as well during his junior season. He earned honorable mention all-district honors for his junior year performance.

Sewell originally impressed the UVa coaches during the 2003 summer camp. According to Coach Kane, Sewell was one of the top quarterbacks during the camp.
