Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, NJ) star Brandon Costner showed this past weekend why he may be one of the top power forwards for the 2005 recruiting class. The 6-8, 220 pound left-hander showed nice low post moves in addition to a sweet shooting stroke from beyond the arc. The big man helped the Playaz team reach the finals of the Southern Invitational, where they fell short to Boo Williams’ squad 72-64. He finished with 16 points in the loss.
Rated the number 18 prospect in the 2005 class and a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, Costner may be one of the top overall recruits in the country. He has received scholarship offers from many big-time programs.
“Michigan, Indiana, Virginia, UNC, NC State, Florida, UConn,” Costner responded when asked which schools are recruiting him. “Everybody has offered me except for UNC.”
Costner has not set up any official visits. He indicated this weekend he would be making an unofficial visit to UVa following the Southern Invitational.
“Yeah they’re pretty high on the list,” Costner said of UVa. “I was here last year, and I’ve been in touch with the coaches a lot. I’m staying in Virginia for an unofficial visit on Monday.”
When asked when he would like to make a decision, Costner said he “hasn’t decided.” He didn’t list any favorites.
As a junior, Costner averaged 18 points and nine boards per game. He stated his academics are “solid” and he will easily qualify.
