DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, MD) prospect Derrick McPhearson returned today from his third and final official visit, which was to the University of Florida. The 6-1, 190 pound blue-chip wide receiver spoke highly of the Florida program following this weekend’s trip.
“Florida was real nice,” McPhearson said. “I had a great time. They have great facilities and a overall nice program. It was everything I expected out of one of the best programs in the country.”
One of the top receivers in the East, McPhearson did not commit on his visit and will now decide among Florida, Maryland, and Virginia Tech. He stated several positives he likes about each program at this point.
“For Florida, the facilities are second-to-none,” McPhearson said. “The program has everything you could want. The academic support is fantastic along with being one of the top football programs in the nation.
“Virginia Tech has a very tight-knit team. The players are all really close. They have a great tradition there.
“Maryland is close to home. It’s a comfortable place to be.”
At this point, McPhearson claims no leaders among the three. He may announce his decision on Comcast Sports Tuesday at 6:30 pm, but is not yet sure what he will do.
“It’s a very tight race right now,” McPhearson said. “I had a great time on all of my official visits, and each school offers certain particular things that are special. I’m just going to talk it over with my family and figure out what place is the best for me and where I feel most comfortable. I felt comfortable at all of them on my official visits, which is why it’s going to be so tough.”
