Tri-Cities (East Point, GA) athlete Tristan Davis visited Mississippi State last weekend, and came away impressed with new Head Coach Sylvester Croom. Croom is one of the main reasons the explosive and versatile prospect made an official to MSU, who is now very much in the mix.

“It was all right,” Davis said. “It was real nice. Mississippi State has been recruiting me for a long time, but I never really considered them because of the coaching situation. They really have come into the picture since they got their new Head Coach. Coach [Sylvester] Croom is a real good guy. The highlight of the visit was probably talking to him.”

Davis indicated that the Mississippi State visit was his favorite thus far. He has also been to Virginia and North Carolina for official visits.

“It was probably my favorite visit,” Davis said of his Mississippi State visit. “They just had a lot of good people around there.”

Up next for Davis is Auburn, after which he says he would likely be finished with official visits. He had tentatively scheduled a January 30th visit to Arkansas, however he doubted he would make it.

Auburn is scheduled to be in-home with Tristan tomorrow night, and he is looking forward to the opportunity to meet Head Coach Tommy Tuberville in person.

“Auburn is going to be interesting,” Davis said. “I don’t know what to think yet. In fact, I will meet Coach [Tommy] Tuberville in person for the first time tomorrow night. I’m going to ask him some questions and see where I would fit into their plans.”

Davis did not name any favorites at this time, as he wants to take his visits and then determine which program he likes the best. One school is losing ground at this point, however, and that program is UNC.

“I’m still pretty even,” Davis said. “I want to make all of my visits before I say anything. Of my schools, I would say UNC is falling right now. The other three are about even.”

Auburn is in-home tomorrow, and Mississippi State Head Coach Sylvester Croom will be in-home on Thursday. Virginia, led by Head Coach Al Groh and Defensive Line Coach Mike London, is scheduled to make an in-home visit next week.

Davis is not sure when he will announce his decision.

“I really don’t know when I’ll have a decision,” Davis said.

Due to the efforts of Mike London and the rest of the UVA coaching staff, UVA is a finalist for Tristan Davis
