Plainfield (NJ) star Dan Davis is, for the most part, down to just three schools – Connecticut, Rutgers, and Virginia. Davis has made official visits to both Connecticut and Rutgers, and has scheduled his official visit to UVA for January 30th.
The Cavaliers, led by recruiting coach Al Golden, remain very actively involved in Davis’ recruitment.
“I have set my official visit to UVA for January 30th,” Davis said. “Coach Prince stopped by my school last Wednesday, and I spoke to Coach Golden on Friday. They basically talked to me about where I’m at with recruiting and which position I want to play. They want me to play outside linebacker.”
The Cavaliers are the only school of the three recruiting Davis as an outside linebacker. Davis admitted to having a slight preference regarding position, however indicated he was open to the possibility of playing outside linebacker.
“Well, yeah I would prefer defensive end,” Davis said. “But I’m open to different choices. I’m actually hip to the outside linebacker position, because I stood up on the edge sometimes for my team. It wouldn’t be something totally new if I went there.”
In terms of favorites, Davis says there are none at this point.
“Right now, to be honest I have to say no,” Davis said when asked if he has any favorite schools. “I know what I need to know about Rutgers and UConn. I have some questions I need to know about UVA and what they have planned for me. These will probably be addressed when I make my visit. Just by looking at their roster, I know they have a lot of linebackers and defensive ends who are young. Their defensive ends are all huge guys as well. I know the best players play, but they played two freshmen linebackers and a sophomore this year, so I’d want to know if they would want to red-shirt me. Early playing time will probably be a big factor in my decision.”
Both Rutgers and UConn have told Davis he would have a good opportunity to play early for their respective programs. UConn has indicated that defensive end is a big need for them, and that he is one of their top targets.
“Connecticut is telling me I could play right away,” Davis said. “It was funny, their Defensive Coordinator was playing around, telling me to graduate early so I could get a head start with Spring practice. He was joking, but I know they really want me to play early there.”
Davis hopes to have a decision immediately following his UVA visit....
