Matawan (NJ) defensive tackle prospect Carl Howard may have narrowed his list down to two schools. He made an official visit to one of those schools this weekend, as he headed to NC State.
“It was a pretty good visit,” Howard said. “They impressed me in some ways, which is a positive for them. Mainly, I was impressed with the facilities and the way they support the players academically. They stress it a lot with study hall and just have a lot of people there to help you. The football program seems to be very well right now, and I see them maintaining that.”
Howard will make a visit to his other finalist on January 23rd-25th, when he goes to Virginia Tech. He says NC State may have an edge right now, but quickly mentioned that he still needs to see Virginia Tech before coming to a decision.
“As of right now, NC State may be ahead but that’s only because I haven’t seen Virginia Tech,” Howard said. “So it’s only common sense that I like them because I know more about them. The visit this weekend was a success, but it’s going to be pretty hard choosing between Virginia Tech and NC State. Basically, those are my final two.”
Both NC State and Virginia Tech like Howard as a defensive tackle. The 6-6, 280 pound prospect is an excellent athlete, possessing 4.8 speed in the 40 to go along with his mammoth frame.
Following his Virginia Tech visit, Howard may have a decision ready within one week.
“I’ll probably have a decision about a week before Signing Day,” Howard said. “My coach wants me to make a big announcement at school, but I don’t know about all that (laughs). I mean, word gets around pretty quickly anyway.”
When asked what will be the final factor in his decision, Howard said “the gut. Definitely the gut feeling.”
