Millville (NJ) defensive end prospect Dwayne Hendricks may be making his final official visit next weekend (January 17th), when he travels to Miami (FL). The Hurricanes, along with Iowa and Virginia, are the likely finalists for the 6-4, 260 pound All-American.

“I think it is probably those three,” Millville Head Football Coach Dave Heck said. “Coach [Joe] Paterno came in before the dead period and was trying to get Dwayne’s fifth official visit, but I don’t know whether or not he’s going to take it. He will probably be able to decide following his visit to Miami.”

Hendricks has made official visits to Iowa, Virginia, and Michigan thus far. The Wolverines have been or appear close to being eliminated from the race.

In the beginning of the Hendricks’ recruitment, Coach Heck thought his star player would eventually choose Miami or Florida. Miami is the only one left of the Florida schools and now, he’s not sure who he’ll choose.

“Early on, I really thought it was going to be one of the Florida schools,” Heck said. “But he had a great time on his visit to Iowa, and he has a real interest in Virginia, so now I’m not sure where he’ll go. It will be interesting to see where he goes. Hopefully he’ll be ready to decide after his Miami trip. He knows the routines for the official visits, so I think he’ll just go where he’s most comfortable.”

Iowa was the first school to officially offer Hendricks, which was a big reason why he decided to visit there. UVA has been in on him since the early stages as well, and their effort throughout has paid dividends.

“Iowa was the first schools to offer,” Heck said. “Since they did, he kind of committed that they would be one of his official visits. I think he was having second thoughts about it, but after he returned from his visit there, he said ‘Coach, it would have been a mistake not to go.’ He just felt really comfortable there with the players.

“For Virginia, they were in it at the beginning and then fell out of the loop. Then they started to get back in it, which is when Dwayne decided to make an unofficial visit there. And then ten days before that trip, he told me he wanted to make it an official. They’ve just done a very good job with him throughout. Mike Groh has developed a great relationship with him, and Coach London has to be one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met out
