Winslow Township (Atco, NJ) defensive line prospect is hoping to set up several official visits for the month of January. The top two programs he would like to officially visit are Iowa and Virginia Tech, however the Hokies have not been in contact for some time.
“I’m hoping to talk to the Iowa coaches and set something up for the middle of the month,” Young said. “My interest is strong for Iowa and it’s strong for Virginia Tech. I haven’t really gotten any calls from Virginia Tech. I’ll call them and see what the situation is. If they aren’t recruiting me and I don’t get many other options, I’d probably end up going to Iowa.”
The Hawkeyes offered Young a scholarship during the Spring evaluation period. The 6-4, 260 pound prospect also holds offers from Rutgers, Wagner, and Mississippi Valley State. Originally recruited as a defensive tackle, Young hopes to work on his speed this month and may end up as a defensive end or even tight end.
“I’ve lost a lot of weight since football, and I’m down to about 260,” Young said. “I want to work on my speed with my speed coach, and hopefully I’ll get down to a 4.65 or so. I wouldn’t mind playing end on defense or tight end on offense. I can catch the ball really well.”
It doesn’t appear Virginia Tech is actively recruiting Young at this point. He will contact the staff within the next week or two, however it looks like he may end up elsewhere.
