Landstown (Virginia Beach, VA) star Jeremy Gilchrist received a scholarship offer from Virginia Tech last week. The Hokies decided to offer the 5-11, 185 pound wide receiver after reviewing senior film.
“I think at first Virginia Tech had questions about his speed, but once they saw him in the playoffs running away from guys with speed, they had their questions answered,” Landstown Head Coach Chris Beatty said. “They offered last Friday, and Jeremy was excited to get the offer. He’s a player who plays with a lot of heart. People found out how great he really was when we played teams outside of our district and he continued to play great.”
Gilchrist is currently making an official visit to Kent State. He has offers from Virginia Tech, Kent State, and Connecticut. This season, he made 87 catches for 1,439 yards and 18 touchdowns. He added three rushing touchdowns, three punt-returns for touchdowns, had two touchdowns on defense and nine interceptions. Jeremy averaged 30.7 yards per punt return.
In the classroom, Gilchrist has already qualified academically. Coach Beatty is not sure when Gilchrist will decide or if he will make further visits. Gilchrist has seen Virginia Tech before, so an official visit to Blacksburg may not be necessary before a decision is made.
