Phil Trautwein will make his fourth official visit on the weekend of December 12th – 14th, as he goes to the University of Virginia. His fifth official visit remains up for grabs. Virginia Tech, who has been on his list for quite some time, and now Florida are the two teams being considered.
The Gators have not yet offered Trautwein, however they may as early as this week.
“Coach [Ron] Zook is supposed to call me tomorrow, and I think he might offer me then,” Trautwein said. “I spoke with Coach Wickline, and he said more than likely they would be offering me. He doesn’t have the authority to do it though.”
When asked if Florida would get the fifth and final visit, Trautwein said “I don’t know yet. I’m not sure. The final visit will either be Virginia Tech or Florida.”
Early on in the recruiting process, the Gators were one of Trautwein’s favorites but have since slipped after not being involved as much as the other programs on his list. He liked Florida after visiting them unofficially for a game in 2001.
His visit to Virginia this weekend will be his first ever experience in Charlottesville. Coaches Al Golden and Mike Groh were in-home with him last week to discuss the visit.
Trautwein has made official visits to Michigan State, Boston College, and Tennessee. Michigan State and Tennesee remain his two favorites at this point.
“Tennessee and Michigan State are my two favorites,” Trautwein said. “Both places have good coaches and good programs. Football is life at both places.”
Tuesday, Trautwein and the rest of his Eastern Regional team will face Washington Township for the South, Group 4 State Championship. The game was originally scheduled for this weekend however was postponed due to bad weather.
