Eastern Regional (Voorhees, NJ) offensive lineman Phil Trautwein has taken one official visit and set up two more. His first official was to Michigan State for the weekend of September 26th.

The Spartans, who have had a good season under first-year coach John L. Smith, are currently at the top of Trautwein’s list.

“My favorites are Michigan State, Iowa, Boston College, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, Maryland, and Tennessee,” said Trautwein. “Right now Michigan State is leading because they are the only place I’ve been to. The visit there was good. My favorite part of the trip was hanging out with the players and having dinner with the coaches. The win over Iowa was big.”

The 6-7, 300 pound Trautwein has received scholarship offers from all of his favorites except for Tennessee. Boston College and Iowa will receive his next two visits, while Virginia, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Maryland, and Rutgers are in the hunt for the final two slots.

I’m going to Iowa on December 12th. It’s between Virginia, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Maryland, and Rutgers for the final two visits.”

If he is unable to set dates with either the Cavaliers or the Hokies, there is a good possibility he will make unofficial trips to each school.

“I was supposed to go to Virginia this past Saturday, but I sprained my ankle and our team physician told me to rest it over the weekend,” said Trautwein. “I might go there for the Georgia Tech game now. I’m hoping to go to Virginia Tech for the Miami game. I need to talk to Coach Cavanaugh to see if they have any more room.”

The Cavaliers and Hokies are appealing to Trautwein for much of the same reasons.

“Both UVA and Virginia Tech are uprising programs,” said Trautwein. “I’ve heard they both have great campuses, and you can get a great education at both places.”

One team on the rise here is Boston College. They rose on Trautwein’s list after accepting an invitation to the ACC.

“Being in the ACC really helped them,” said Trautwein of the Eagles. “The ACC is going to be one of the best conferences in the nation. Boston College makes great linemen and they are only about five hours away from my house. I’ve heard they have a
