King Low-Heywood Thomas School (CT) power forward Cornelio Guibunda took an official visit to the University of Virginia this past weekend.
Despite suffering a slight injury on the visit, the 6-9, 205 pound Guibunda had a great time according to guardian and KLHT coach Ervin Braun.
“He loved it,” said Braun. “He thought the campus was beautiful. He liked the comraderie amongst the players. He loves UVA.
“Unfortunately, he rolled an ankle in a pick-up game with the other players. He had to leave on crutches. Everything is fine though. The X-Rays are negative.”
Guibunda has planned official visits with Miami (FL) for this weekend and Georgetown for later this month. Richmond and Villanova are two other schools in contention. The Spiders will make an in-home visit on September 17th.
Fans can expect Guibunda to make a fall decision. He is eager to end the process as soon as possible.
“Cornelio wants to get the process over with,” said Braun. “He feels like he should visit some other schools though, so he can make the most informed decision. I think that’s a very mature thing to do. He’s met all of the other coaches, so he feels obligated to them to at least take a visit.”
Even though the Cavaliers did not receive a commitment this weekend, they are looking very strong for the talented big man.
“Without a doubt, Virginia has a very very strong chance [with Guibunda],” said Braun.
As a junior, Guibunda averaged 25.2 points, 14 rebounds, and 7.8 blocks per game for KLHT.
