Since coaches have been able to contact recruits via the telephone, Hugh D’Imperio has received calls from Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Michigan State, Miami (FL), Tennessee, and Rutgers, among others.

The 6-5, 230 pound middle linebacker/tight end prospect has listed Virginia Tech at or near the top of his list for quite some time, and it appears nothing has changed.

“Virginia Tech is probably like my number one school right now,” said D’Imperio, who is being recruited by Tech’s Jim Cavanaugh. “I like how they are moving to the ACC. I also like how they have a lot of big time players who are still young. I’ve talked with the Virginia Tech about setting up an official visit, but unfortunately the date we have discussed falls on our state championship game, so we’re still talking.”

D’Imperio has set up one official visit, a December 13th trip to Michigan State. He has received scholarship offers from Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Wisconsin, UNC, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and West Virginia.

Tennessee has been showing more and more interest recently as well.

“Tennessee has been sending me a lot of letters, but they never called up until recently,” said D’Imperio. “When I spoke with their coach, he sounded very interested.”

Washington Township got off to a good start to the 2003 season, defeating Pennsauken 30-7 this past weekend. D’Imperio did not have his statistics, however felt he played a “pretty good game.”
