Butler (Charlotte, NC) safety/wide receiver Jamar Adams enjoyed a very successful Nike Camp in Blacksburg. Ever since, he has drawn heavy interest, including one scholarship offer from a major program.
According to Butler head coach Mike Newsome, Adams is deserving of the attention.
“Jamar has been offered by Michigan,” said Newsome. “UVA and Virginia Tech really like him. Nebraska, Penn State, Vanderbilt, UNC, NC State, Clemson, and Wake Forest are showing interest.
“Jamar is just a tremendous player. He plays free safety and wide receiver for us and has started for three years. Jamar played limited wide receiver, but he made some excellent catches. At safety, he is awesome at breaking up passes. He is being highly recruited because of his size and playing ability.”
The all-conference performer is 6-3, 200 pounds, and runs a 4.5 in the 40 yard dash. He was timed at a 4.03 in the shuttle at the Nike Camp. Almost immediately following his performance at the Nike Camp, Adams was offered by Michigan.
According to Newsome, most schools are recruiting Adams as a free safety prospect. He will attend one-day camps at Wake Forest, Clemson, UNC, NC State and possibly UVA and Virginia Tech. Adams is fully qualified right now for NCAA eligibility, and looks to be thorough in his decision making process.
“Jamar is pretty open,” said Newsome. “He’s really level headed. Jamar’s not going to necessarily stay around home. He will choose the best place for him to play football.”
Adams earned all-conference honors his sophomore and junior seasons. As a junior, Adams made 50 tackles and had five interceptions including two against Florida Gator star recruit Chris Leak.
