Oakton FB/LB Danny Prentice , who earned Washingtong Post first-team all-metro honors as a senior, received a scholarship offer from the University of Virginia within the past three days.
He quickly accepted the offer to play football for the Cavaliers.
“He committed to Virginia last night,” said Pete Bendorf, former Oakton Head Coach. “He will sign the Letter-of-Intent papers today.”
Throughout the process, the Virginia coaches had told Prentice that a spot may become open for him late in the recruiting process. Once it did, Prentice was excited to accept it.
“He was all set to sign with UNLV today, but he told me he wanted to hear one final word from Virginia,” said Bendorf. “He was ecstatic to hear that they had offered him. He’s always wanted to go there.”
Prentice, who starred at linebacker for Oakton, can also play fullback as well according to Bendorf.
“He’s quite versatile,” said Bendorf. “He played fullback, halfback, tight end, and linebacker for us. He catches the ball real well and has a good work ethic. I think Virginia wants him as an athlete more than anything.”
