Virginia Tech kept its recruiting momentum rolling into the weekend, when they received a verbal commitment from one of the top quarterback prospects in the state of North Carolina, Lexington High School’s Cory Holt.
Holt, who has been heavily leaning towards Virginia Tech for the past two weeks, only needed the official visit to confirm his collegiate decision.
“I committed to Virginia Tech,” said Holt, who was hosted by tight end Keith Willis and wide receiver Ernest Wilford. “I’m very excited. Virginia Tech has great coaches. Coach Beamer is a great guy who was very down-to-earth with me. I like the family atmosphere down there. Everyone made me feel at home.”
Holt is Virginia Tech’s second commitment in three days – on Friday, Western Branch linebacker Vince Hall committed to the Hokies. He becomes Virginia Tech’s 20th commitment of the year.
Following his senior year at Lexington, Holt will head to Hargrave Military Academy before attending Virginia Tech.
“They want me to go to Hargrave for a semester,” said Holt. “They want to put some separation (eligibility wise) between me and Marcus Vick.”
Combining a strong arm with great athletic ability, Holt is an excellent pickup for Virginia Tech. He is very excited to become a Hokie.
