Philip Brown , who is the top defensive back prospect in the state of Virginia, took his first ever visit to the University of Virginia last weekend.
The visit comes just days after Brown announced his verbal commitment to the Cavaliers, and the visit just reinforced his decision.
“Man, I had a ball,” said Brown. “They showed me a real good time down there. It was everything I expected it to be. I was really comfortable with the atmosphere.
“I’m a Cavalier. That’s the place where I feel I will maximize my potential.”
One of the highlights of the trip was getting to know all of the players and coaches a little better.
“Plenty of people [at Virginia] come from Hampton,” said Brown. “I felt like I was right at home. I already knew most of those guys. And Coach Groh… I really like his style with his hands on approach. He’s not afraid to put an arm around your shoulder and tell you what he thinks.”
But those weren’t the only highlights for Brown, who will play cornerback for the Cavaliers.
“I like that big team hotel,” said Brown with a laugh. “The dorm set-up is nice to. The visit was just nice.”
Over the next few months, Brown will concentrate heavily on qualifying for NCAA eligibility. If he does not qualify, look for him to end up at a prep school such as Fork Union.
Brown is rated as one the number 12 cornerback prospect in the country by ESPN.com. He is also rated the number one prospect in the state of Virginia by Rivals.com.
