Holy Cross (Delran, NJ) wide receiver prospect James “Jim-Jim” Townsend was hoping to visit Virginia this weekend. Unfortunately, he could not schedule a visit and wants to visit the Cavaliers at a later date.
“I’m not going this weekend,” said Townsend. “I hope to visit Virginia on January 24.”
Townsend visited South Carolina last weekend, and had an excellent official visit. Two days later, the after-glow is still strong with the talented New Jersey prospect.
“It’s still there,” said Townsend. “I’m pretty high on South Carolina. My top three are Iowa, South Carolina, and of course Virginia.”
While he hasn’t yet scheduled his Virginia trip, Townsend is almost all set for his other visits. He will go to Pittsburgh on January 4, Iowa on January 17, and Minnesota sometime between his Pitt and Iowa visits. He wants to take all five visits before deciding.
Assuming the Cavaliers do not run out of scholarships, they may have an advantage over the rest of the competition in this race. Townsend is very close with former Holy Cross and current Virginia running back Wali Lundy.
“We are best, best, best friends,” said Townsend. “We are like brothers. We played well together when he was here. And what you are seeing down there, that’s just Wali doing his thing. I give him all the credit in the world for making it happen.”
Townsend, a physical receiver who has the speed to make the big play, had a good senior season for Holy Cross, as he led his team to a Division title and an appearance in the state finals. For the year, he made 52 receptions for 1,063 yards and ten touchdown’s.
The weekend of January 17 will be a determining factor as to whether or not the Cavaliers still have room for Townsend. He is certainly a talented prospect who would be a great fit for Virginia.
