Following in the footsteps of recent Virginia commitment Jonathan Stupar, Ian Cunningham hopes to announce his decision Wednesday, December 18 on an ESPN chat.
“I am going to try and announce my decision on ESPN this Wednesday,” said Cunningham. “Tom Lemming called me and asked if I wanted to do that and I called him back to confirm, but he didn’t answer. We are kind of playing phone tag right now, but that is what I hope to do.
“I’ll be ready to decide by then.”
Cunningham returned today from his visit to Virginia. The visit didn’t quite go as planned, but he still managed to have a good time in Charlottesville.
“It went well,” said Cunningham. “I had plane trouble and got delayed, so I didn’t get into Charlottesville until 1 or 2 Saturday morning. It was good getting the chance to talk with Elton Brown and I also hung out with Michael Johnson and a few others. Unfortunately, I just didn’t get a chance to spend as much time with the players as I would have liked.”
Cunningham also got the chance to meet fellow recruits Ryan Mundy and Windell Brown, as well as Virginia commitments James Terry, Deyon Williams, and Marshall Ausberry.
“I spent the most time probably with Ryan Mundy and Marshall [Ausberry],” said Cunningham. “They were very cool.”
After a brief visit to Virginia, Cunningham now focuses on making his decision. He couldn’t name a frontrunner following his trip to Virginia.
“I’ll decide between all three,” said Cunningham. “A lot of different factors will go into it. I’ll be ready by Wednesday.”
Obviously the weekend didn’t go as planned for either party, however don’t count the Cavaliers out. Virginia has many things working in their favor, but Georgia Tech will be a major force. It’s really too close to call right now.
